PPS can also provide clients with a bespoke comprehensive knowledge base (EXTRACT), as a Microsoft Access relational database on an SQL Database platform. PPS is powered by 30 years of specialist support to the international consumer health sector, world leading expertise in the use of herbal remedies, by hard experience in bringing plant-based products to the market against unique regulatory and logistic challenges, and especially by a passion for the opportunities that natural products have for timely and socially responsible contributions to self-managed health care.

PPS principal Simon Mills is an acknowledged authority on herbal medicine, since 1980 a Board member and former President of the UK trade body, the British Herbal Medicine Association (BHMA), and since 1997 Secretary of the European Scientific Cooperative on Phytotherapy (ESCOP) that produces harmonised monographs on herbal medicinal products initially for the European Medicines Agency. He was a founder member of the UK MHRA’s Herbal Medicines Advisory Committee (HMAC) that oversaw the first Traditional Herbal Medicinal Product registrations.  He has led major research projects for the EU, UK government and a US foundation, been Special Advisor to the UK House of Lords, and has authored standard textbooks on herbal medicine.

From 2016-2024 Simon was Herbal Strategist at Pukka Herbs, the tea and supplement manufacturer, and was in post during the Unilever acquisition and when it was outperforming the market and exciting the industry with its innovative sustainable business model and popular health brands and messaging. 

PPS Lead partner Martin Willoughby PhD is a supply chain, product innovation and business development specialist who has worked at senior levels for GSK, Pfizer and Wyeth, including in the development of new international product pipelines for VMS, dietary supplements, probiotics and botanicals. He has also served on the boards of the BHMA and ESCOP.

PPS Partner Marion Mackonochie is a masters graduate in herbal medicine and a botanicals professional with extensive experience in translating traditional knowledge into commercial communications. Her strengths include research analysis, and management of research projects to support product development and sales. Marion worked with Simon at Pukka from 2018 as herbal science manager, where she built a research programme into the health benefits of herbs in collaboration with multiple academic institutions in the UK. She has a strong background in phytochemistry, herbal science research, product development, and health communication, as well as experience with developing and managing research to support claims, product development and reputation, and translating findings for sales and marketing teams.

Our US Associate Joy Dubost PhD RD, of NJOY Health & Nutrition LLC, brings over 20 years of senior nutrition and scientific affairs management at global food companies, such as Unilever, PepsiCo and Lipton. Joy effectively translates evidence-based science and regulation into impactful consumer communications, and brings her own network of industry, public health, policy, and scientific experts that integrate into the US regulatory landscape and new Make America Healthy Again policies.
